Want to know where we meet?

Here's a map to Abbrook Park. 9am Sundays for our group ride, check the calendar for the destination.

Club Runs

The Mid Devon hold regular training rides or “club runs” on every Sunday. Club Runs are the mainstay of cycling in this country giving riders the opportunity to meet on an informal or social basis, organise your lift to the next event, and to put in some training miles. You do not have to be a member to ride with us and we actively encourage people to come along and meet the club with a view to joining in the future.

With thirty to forty riders attending (and sometimes up to 60) the ride is split into two (or sometimes three) ability groups. The A run is the faster group containing the clubs racing members and those looking to break into racing. Typically the average speed is 18 – 20 mph for the 60 – 70 mile ride. The B run is run off at a more leisurely pace 14 –16 mph and whilst most riders aim to complete the 60 mile ride, many return home earlier to complete family duty’s. Often a third M (middle) group is also run which is between the A and B groups in pace. Many younger riders progress from the B to M and then the A group. The age range is from 14 – 75.

We don’t leave anyone behind ! If you are having a bad day or a mechanical problem the group will wait for you and ensure you safely reach your destination.

If you are coming out for the first time we advise that you bring a roadworthy bike a couple of spare inner tubes a pump and some money. Remember to wear suitable clothing and wrap up warm in the winter months.

Below is a list of ride destinations, we always stop at the midway point to take on refreshments at the local café. This gives everyone the opportunity to exchange banter,  relive past glory’s or contemplate the new racing season.

The rides leave Abbrook Park Kingsteignton promptly at 9am,  contact andy-parker@blueyonder.co.uk if you would like any more information.

Huw Williams regular Cycling Weekly contributor on all things sportive joined us on one summer club ride and dropped us an email.

I’d just like to say thanks to the MDCC for looking after Chloe and myself on last Sunday’s club run. Great route, lovely café stop and wonderful camaraderie amongst the friendly bunch of riders.
It’s easy to see how the Datmoor Classic is such a success year after year with such a strong club structure in place

Best Wishes

Huw Williams

Whilst the Mid Devon is percieved as a racing club we actively encourage anyone to get on their bike and join
