With our experience and enthusiasm the Mid Devon is well placed to assist young people to enjoy their cycling
Our youth group aged 12 - 18 aims to introduce young people to a broad spectrum of cycling activities, from group rides to introduction to cycle sport through time trialling, cyclo cross and circuit racing. We also provide regular subsidised trips to Newport Velodrome for training.
For many young people buying a road cycle is the biggest barrier to joining the club, most people own mountain bikes or bmx's but purchasing another bike is a big commitment ! The MDCC has been succesful in making a National Lottery Awards For All bid of £9,000, some of this money was used to purchase road bikes. We have also had donations from club members of their old equipment and now have a healthy stock of bikes to loan out to any new members. We also offer discounted membership, subsidised clothing and areward scheme to keep our young people incetivised.
The Mid Devon is building a healthy reputation as a good cycling club to join, we have created links with the Torbay Sports Partnership and work with them to promote cycling in schools in the Torbay catchment area.
We also have regular contact with Rydon Primary in Kingsteignton and South Dartmoor Community College in Ashburton.
It is through Teacher and MDCC member Chris Hodge's after school cycling club at South Dartmoor that we have gained a number of new members who have gone on to represent MDCC at National level. Check out their website www.southdartmoor.devon.sch.uk type cycling into the search engine and see what they get up to.
Training sessions now move back to Abbrook Park commencing 31st March at 1830. Also on 14th, 28th April, 12th, 26th May, 9th, 23rd June, 7th, 21st July, 4th, 18th August, 1st September
